Board of Management

Cashel Community School is managed by a Board of Management in accordance with the relevant legislation, the Deed of Trust and the requirements of the Department of Education & Youth.

The Board of Management is responsible for the governance and overall direction of the school. Its primary role is to manage the school on behalf of the patron and in the interests of the students, parents/guardians and the wider school community.

Role of the Board of Management

The Board of Management has responsibility for the overall governance and direction of the school.

Among its responsibilities are:

  • ensuring that the school is managed in accordance with relevant legislation and Department of Education & Youth requirements;
  • upholding the ethos and characteristic spirit of the school;
  • overseeing the implementation and review of school policies;
  • having oversight of the school’s finances and resources;
  • overseeing matters relating to the school premises and facilities;
  • supporting the provision of an appropriate education for all students;
  • having regard to the educational, welfare and developmental needs of students;
  • working in partnership with the Principal, staff, parents/guardians, students and the wider school community; and
  • fulfilling the responsibilities assigned to the Board under the Education Act and other relevant legislation.

The Principal is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school and is accountable to the Board of Management in accordance with the relevant governance arrangements.

Board Meetings

The Board of Management meets at various stages throughout the academic year.

The Board operates collectively and members are required to maintain appropriate confidentiality in relation to matters considered by the Board.
