Rocky the Elephant Arrives in Cashel Community School!

This week CCS welcomed our long awaited elephant Rocky to CCS. We had the honour of welcoming Brent Pope who addressed all senior cycle students with a hugely impactful piece on the importance of asking for help and ending the stigma that can still exist around the topic of mental health.

Students were encouraged to embrace what makes them different and never forget the importance of being kind to each other. Students were gripped by Brent’s honesty and authenticity.

This collaborative project would not have been possible without assistance from our community sponsors who attended on the day and Samaritans who are the charity partner of the project this year. Tipp FM visited on the day capturing the excitement of the visit. Rocky will travel around Tipperary throughout 2024, spending a month at each of our supporting businesses initiating conversations, and encouraging everyone to begin a conversation on mental health. The students will now represent CCS at the Young Social Innovators finals in the Aviva next week, which is a huge honour.

In May students will select a design and paint the elephant before it begins a tour locally, the plinth on the elephant contains a QR code containing information on all the mental health supports available locally and nationally in conjunction with Light It Up Tipperary supporting positive mental health.

Businesses can still get involved by contacting the school as this is a fantastic opportunity to become part of an amazing community led mental health project with huge potential. We are so proud of our students displaying huge leadership, tenacity and commitment throughout this project.
