Poc Fada Competition

Cuchulainn Lives On

For a short time on last Friday, the Community School hurling field resembled Cape Canaveral – the scene of countless satellite, space shuttle and missile launches. At lunchtime, the First and Second Year hurlers and camogie players launched sliotars in a long puck competition in aid of the school’s Niall Mellon team 2011. Shannon Strawbridge won the girls’ contest, with a bit to spare. Among the boys, Brendan Ryan’s sky rockets eventually edged out James Casey’s missiles. Cuchulainn, the ancient ‘poc fada’ champion, would have been proud of Shannon and Brendan. Well done to all participants who together contributed a welcome sum towards house-building in South Africa.
