Grace O’Sullivan (MEP) visits Cashel Community School

Grace O’Sullivan (Green Party MEP) recently visited the school and spoke to student members of the Pieta House Amber Flag Project, Student Council and the Global Citizenship Education Student Committee. Before her political career, Grace O’ Sullivan worked with Greenpeace for over 20 years on various anti-nuclear and marine protection initiatives. She is a member of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (PECH) Committee and a member of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee.  Grace O’Sullivan is also a member of delegations on Mercosur and Palestine, and a member of a number of intergroups and working groups, including the Greens/EFA Biodiversity Working Group.

The aim of the talk was to increase the student’s understanding of the European Union and international diplomacy, to link in with the school’s CSPE programme and to encourage student participation in all levels of politics in the future. The importance of biodiversity and climate change was discussed.  Students also received advice on how to develop their ongoing actions in the school.
