The Choir of Cashel Community School accepted an invitation to perform at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Leinster House on 1 December 2011 at 12 noon.

The choir's director, John Murray responded to an invitation issued from Tom Hayes, TD, Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Administration Committee for the choir to provide the entertainment at the annual ceremony on Leinster Lawn. The event will be attended by Seán Barrett, TD, Ceann Comhairle, Senator Paddy Burke, Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, Enda Kenny, TD, Taoiseach, Eamon Gilmore, TD, Tanaiste, political party and group leaders and the members of Dáil and Seanad Éireann.

Speaking before the event, Joint Administration Committee Chairman, Tom Hayes, TD said: "I am delighted that the students of Cashel Community School are taking part in this event in Leinster House. Their performance during the visit in May 2011 of HRH Elizabeth II to the Rock of Cashel proved to be one of the highlights of the State Visit and I am very pleased that once again the choir will have an opportunity to perform on the national stage. This is the first time that a school choir has been invited to perform at this event and I am naturally pleased that the honour has gone to a Tipperary school. "
