Hurling Heartache

In the county Tipperary schools U17 Fitzgerald Plate, Cashel C.S. took on St. Joseph’s, Borrisoleigh, in Boherlahan on Thursday 8th March. Despite being down 1 – 4 to no score after ten minutes, Cashel hauled themselves into the game and took control for much of the remainder of the first half. Yet Borrisoleigh stayed in contention and at half-time the score read: CCS 1 – 7, St. Joseph’s 1 – 6. As the second half progressed, Borrisoleigh edged into a one-point lead but two points from Josh Keane saw Cashel enter the final minute with a one point advantage. With the final puck in normal time Borrisoleigh equalised from a free, 2 – 14 each, sending the game into extra time.

Borrisoleigh came out with a bang in extra time, scoring 1 – 3 without reply from Cashel. Half time: Borrisoleigh 3 – 17, CCS 2 – 14. Both sides added two points during the second half of extra time to end : Borrisoleigh 3 – 19, Cashel C.S. 2 – 16.

Cashel will feel they let this game slip away from them but nobody could fault their effort. There were notable performances from forwards John Keane (0 – 11) and Seanie O’Halloran (2 – 0), while Brian Hand was a rock at corner back.
