Theatre Visits12 Dec 2012
The Sixth Year honours Gaeilge class recently attended a production of “An Triail” in the Excel Theatre, Tipperary Town. Set in the 1960s, this drama follows the story of an unmarried mother and the challenges that she faces in society. It was an energetic and animated production, humorous in parts, but fundamentally tragic. The students enjoyed the excellent standard of acting and interpretation and found the experience beneficial for Leaving Certificate preparation.
On the same day two Junior Certificate English classes headed to The Source Theatre in Thurles to view a staging of “Romeo and Juliet” by the Icarus Theatre Company. Sticking to the traditional costumes and quite true to the script, they put on a good performance. Indeed, the students were quick to point out the differences they noticed between this production and their study of the play itself. (They particularly seemed to enjoy the nurse’s over-exaggerated performance!). The experience brought theatre alive for the students and will be a definite aid to their preparation for Junior Cert 2013.
