“What Parents need to know about Drugs and Alcohol” was the title of a highly informative talk given at Cashel Community School on last Tuesday night by Ms. Sinead O’Mahony, drugs education officer with the H.S.E. The Parents Association hosted this event that was very well received by the parents who attended. Sinead’s abiding message was that parents need to be vigilant about the lifestyle of their teenage (and, indeed, pre-teenage) children. She highlighted the potential risks located in the family home, with particular emphasis on the medicine cabinet, the drinks press, and the storage compartment for cleaning products and related hygiene products. The talk was followed by a valuable question-and-answer session. The attendance was not as large as had been hoped for but those who did turn up found the event hugely beneficial.
The Aintree Grand National – one of the sporting highlights of the year – takes place on this coming Saturday, 9th April. All parents who are keen to have a special “interest” in the race are encouraged to do so by supporting the annual Grand National Draw run by the Parents Association. Tickets for the draw were posted to all families in recent weeks, and all cards should be returned to the school before the draw which takes place this Friday, 8th April. All proceeds from the draw are in aid of the book rental scheme. All parents benefit greatly from the book scheme. The annual draw on the Grand National makes it possible to keep the scheme going. Please support it generously.
