Cross Country Runners06 Dec 2011
The Community School despatched a thirty-three strong squad of athletes to compete in the County Tipperary schools cross country championships staged at Marlfield G.A.A. grounds on 23rd November. Despite the wild and wintery conditions, the CCS representatives performed with great credit. Among the first years, there were good performances from Hannah McSweeney (4th ), Rachel O’Keeffe (6th), Brenda Hassett (7th) and Briain Davern (5th ), while Eoin Hand (5th ) and Declan O’Dwyer (6th) did well for the second years. In the third year category, Seanie O’Halloran ran a super race, leading most of the way and finished third to two very good Clonmel athletes. Best performances came from Fionn Hogan (5th ) and Philip Falvey (6th ) in a senior boys race that featured the current U18 Irish champion.
Cashel C.S. won team prizes in first year girls, first year boys, second year boys and senior boys, and brought home the county shield for best community school. Well done to all involved. A special mention must be made of Lisa Currivan, second year. Lisa was winning her race by “a country mile” when she had to withdraw injured. Her sights are now set on 2012!
