Munster hurling quarter final
The Cashel Community School U/18.5 hurling team suffered a heart-breaking defeat to Bishopstown of Cork after extra time in the Munster senior hurling B competition on Thursday the 12th of January. This was a cracking game of hurling between two very committed teams who gave it their all until the final whistle.
Cashel started much the brighter with fine scores from Eoghan Connolly, Riain Quigley and Conn Bonnar. At this stage Cashel were comfortable and looking threatening at every opportunity. However an opportunistic penalty from the Cork side brought them back into the game and they trailed at the break 0-13 to 1-5.
Into the second half and the Cork side were transformed. The weather also deteriorated with Cashel facing into sleet and rain. Gradually Bishopstown reeled Cashel in despite some heroic defending and goalkeeping by Killian Hayde. Indeed it took a late point from the outstanding Connolly to force extra time.
Again in extra time there was little between the teams as they stood toe to toe for twenty minutes. Bishopstown got the break with five minutes to go when they scored a cracking goal. Cashel again responded with two points but could not bring the game level and were down a point when the final whistle blew. After a cracking match the Cashel lads were devastated but they had fought tooth and nail for the jersey and can be very proud of themselves.
