Anna Hickey Memorial Cup Begins

What has become one of the most eagerly awaited sporting events on the CCS calender, the annual Anna Hickey Memorial Cup has gotten off to a flying start in recent days.  This league sees teams of students and teachers competing against one another at lunchtime games in front of a packed sportshall.  In recent years the teachers have been the team to beat, however, this year there are two teams of teachers competing which will make the competition very interesting if they come up against each other in the knockout stages!!!

Holycross Drama Festival

A band of Transition Year students ventured into the world of drama recently, scripting and performing their own version of the much-loved tale of Cinderella and staging it in the schools’ section of the Holycross Drama Festival. They prepared and performed under the direction of Mrs. Eileen O’Dwyer and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. One of their number, Sinead Magner, received an award for her performance in the role of “Ugly Sister”.

Choir to the Fore

The schools’ section of the Cork International Choral Festival was held last week. As always, Cashel Community School choir took part and, as ever, performed extremely well, coming second in the post-primary mixed voices section. They performed under the direction of Mr. John Murray and the adjudicators scored them highly for their selected pieces, “Mack the Knife” and “Tuirne Mhaire”.

Mini Company Awards


Two Transition Year groups from CCS competed in the annual South Tipperary County Enterprise Board schools competition. Staged at Clonmel Park Hotel, the “Kirky Kardz” company, comprised of Sinead Magner, Roisin Crowe and Orla Slattery displayed their high quality hand-made cards. Their uniqueness and creativity ensured they received much praise from visitors to their stand. On top of that, the judges awarded them the prize for “highly commended.”
