Wise Man’s Words

On Monday, 5th December, the Community School Parents’ Association hosted a very informative and hugely entertaining talk on “Parenting – the Challenges and the Rewards.” The guest speaker was Mr. John Lonergan, former governor of Mountjoy and erstwhile Tipperary Person of the Year. Mr. Lonergan treated the large audience to a number of very insightful accounts of incidents and events from his own experience of parenting – his stories resonated with the assembled parents since they could recognise similar happenings in their own exercise of parenting.

Honour for Choir


Honour for Choir

On Thursday, 1st December, the Community School senior choir had the great honour of inaugurating Christmas 2011 in Ireland when, by official invitation, they sang a selection of carols in the grounds of Dáil Eireann. An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, and many T.D.s and  Senators attended the festive event. Afterwards, the choir members were given a guided tour of Leinster House by South Tipperary T.D., Tom Hayes, who also hosted the official luncheon laid on for them by the Oireachtas authorities.

Work Experience Weeks

Since Halloween mid-term break, the 6LCA and T.Y. classes have had the benefit of out-of-school placements in a wide range of everyday adult work situations. For each and all of the students it has been an eye-opener that has broadened their understanding of what is required of employees and of the self-employed. The school authorities at CCS are extremely grateful to the scores of business people, employers and self-employed persons who welcomed and tutored the students who were in their charge during the past few weeks.

“Rock Solid Bank”

On Wednesday 23rd November, the Transition Year students were proud to open their school bank, under the reassuring title: “Rock Solid Bank”. They have entered upon this venture in conjunction with the AIB “build a bank” programme. Lar Corbett was guest of honour at this special event and cut the (blue and gold) ribbon to officially open the bank for business.
