Dean Byrne Cup
The family of the Dean Byrne, the CCS First Year student who died in a tragic accident twelve months ago, have kindly donated a beautiful soccer cup to be played for in his memory. The inaugural match was played at the Community School recently, contested by the school’s First Year team and Cashel Town’s U13 side. The game was a fitting memorial tribute to Dean who was an excellent striker for both school and club.
With an age advantage, the school team came out on top. Dean’s parents Liam and Shirley presented the cup to the CCS captain Brían Davern and the man-of-the-match trophy to Alan O’Donnell. Mr. Morrissey expressed the school’s thanks to the Byrne family and to Cashel Town.
P.J. Davern Cup
The First Year class soccer league saw Erne and Foyle contest the final. And what a contest it was! After a 3 – 3 draw, the issue was decided in an exciting penalty shoot-out, 4 – 2 in favour of Foyle. Thanks to Martin Coleman and Jimmy Walsh for refereeing the series of matches, to Mr. Duffy, Mr. O’Briena and Mr. Kennedy, and a special word of thanks to sponsor Joe Ahern, Rock House Restaurant, Cashel.
